The Baikal Pulp and Paper Joint Venture is expected to halt production in September.
Dmitry Sheybe, General Director of the Foreign Economic Bank Engineering Company, revealed in an interview with RIA Novosti that the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill, which the government announced it would shut down, will cease production in September.
In February of this year, the Russian government decided to gradually shut down the Baikal Pulp and Paper Complex, relocating production to other facilities. At the time, the Foreign Economic Bank became the primary lender to the paper mill, while the Foreign Economic Bank Engineering Company was tasked with studying the issues related to ceasing operations and undertaking ecological restoration efforts.
To address existing issues, the Foreign Economic Bank has provided a loan of 3.6 billion rubles to the paper mill. At the end of July, the lender will review the issue of closing the paper mill.
He said, "According to our calculations, sealing off the equipment starting September 1 will take three months, and it will require an additional two years to gradually shut down the plant—while ensuring full compliance with all environmental regulations."
He also mentioned that the Foreign Economic Bank Engineering Company is currently collaborating with a design institute in Siberia to develop a plan for shutting down the paper mill.
